Climbing trees, thanksgiving and more
12.8
Two weeks ago (on Nov 22 after all my visitors left) I spent a lot of time working on classwork. I had a small presentation on Monday, and Tuesday it rained like mad and we just went to the library to research images in children’s books for our studio project. I spent Wednesday, Thursday and part of Friday hunched over my laptop and my arduino board, building a simplified prototype of...

My many visitors!
11.22
Two weeks ago after my return from Berlin I had my first presentation in my studio course. Everything went smoothly thanks to my wonderful teammates, Maeva and Cristina. However, I was coming down with a cold and I was sweaty and nervous most of the day. I rested a lot that week and took a lot of medicine alongside my tea with honey, and I recovered quickly. Thursday night I had dinner in...
Lots of catching up to do!

(DARMSTADT + ESSEN WEEK 5)
The Friday before last, Peggy, Rao and I visited our friend Mio in Darmstadt. We arrived around 10 pm and walked through the city center to her wohngemeinschaft. She also took us out to a place called Cafe Chaos which has an extensive menu of all kinds of drinks and snacks. I drank yummy mango lassi while we talked about life for a while. The next day we made...

Essen week 3 + most of 4
10.28
Last Monday (the 18th) I went to see a modern ballet by Folkwang students. It was really cool, they incorporated singing and storytelling along with the dance. On Tuesday, we had studio, which I mentioned. Wednesday we got up to go to Dortmund at 9 for a bus tour of some sculpture. Little did we know we were going all across Germany for 11 hours. I don’t really know where we were,...

Essen, weeks 2-2.5
10.19
Last Monday Peggy and I left Amsterdam at 12:30 and were in Essen again by 3:00. It is an astonishingly short distance from one city to the other so I guess we could easily go back if we like. Tuesday morning we had an introductory meeting to a sculpture class that we were interested in. I had originally wanted to make something with my hands from clay or something traditional like that,...
Last weekend in Bonn & Amsterdam
10.9
This weekend in Bonn wasn’t so bad. We arrived easily Friday morning and made some friends on the bus (other DAAD students). There was decent food for it being free, and the mingling was not really that painful. Somehow the OSU magnet clicked on and we met the other 2 recipient Buckeyes before the program had begun: Leslie, a PhD candidate in anthropology, and Jake, an Engineering...
The rest of Paris and first week in Essen
9.28
Today we went to Musée D’Orsay to see some ultra-famous Van Gogh, Cézanne, Degas, Rodin, Courbet, Gaugin, Manet, Monet, Matisse, Renoir, Seurat and Toulouse Lautrec among others, including Henry Van de Velde’s desk! It’s so strange to think that these are the actual artifacts of these artists, just pieces of fabric and paint laid down, and it was their mark-making that...
Paris, days one and two
9.26-27
I’m grateful to have another chance to experience Paris and to navigate the city on my own. When we arrived Sunday morning, we found our hotel which, surprisingly, had a room ready for us at 10:30. We stored our stuff, and a couple minutes later, our phone rang. It was Nick! He was downstairs in our lobby because he knew we’d have trouble contacting him. We went with Nick to...
Cinque Terre

In La Spezia last night we got dinner at a small pizzeria near the train station. I got a “vegetariana” with eggplant, red pepper and some thinly sliced zucchini. It was actually the best pizza we’ve had here. When we got to Ostello Tramonti we didn’t know who would be the 4th member of our dorm room but we were lucky, because it was Janet! She was already there when...

Roma - the story
9.22 evening
We arrived in Milan and had about 1.5 hours there—got “Pizze-Toast” and beer at a food stand outside the train station. It was gross but we had our first drink of alcohol in public here. There was a small plaza or something in front of the station. Several people buzzing about. We’re a bit nervous about the language barrier since none of us know Italian, but...
Flight, Day one & Day two
9.20 US & FLIGHT
Will drove me to the airport this morning. I cried a little, but it was okay. We (myself, Gen, Peggy and Briana) went through security without a hitch, though I had to use 4 bins for all my stuff. Our flight to Dulles was short and when we got to the airport we found our next gate by 4 pm. Gen picked up Auntie Anne’s pretzels (I had a garlic one). The plane left...
Ready to go?
Hi everyone!! I’m in Chillicothe this week, preparing to leave for Germany. My flight is Monday, Sept. 20th. I’m super nervous but now that things are coming together I’m starting to get excited again. I’ve decided to keep this blog pretty up-to-date when I travel so that you all, my friends and family and the whole world, can follow me if you like. I will be staying in...

Waking
I’m off work today because I feel crappish. I think it’s in part due to allergies; not just seasonal but a lot of it is from the dust being kicked up by our freshly operating heat system, as well as the rat-related dirt around my room. So this morning at 8:30 (while not being at work) I furiously vacuumed and cleaned my room; I’m also running all my bed linens through the wash at...

I HAD BABIES
yesterday.
they are two beautiful boys, named casper and templeton. they are hairless rats, and i’ll post pictures as soon as i can get them to sit still and pose for the camera.
This really happened on vacation.
Mormon: Hey, how are you all doing today?
Dad: (continues walking) We're just fine, thanks.
Mormon: (following) That's good, where are you folks from?
Dad: Ohio.
Mormon: Really? That's great, what part of Ohio?
Dad: The atheist part of Ohio. (Huge grin and self-indulgent laughter.)
Mormon: (Stops following.)
Mean things about stupid Amy
LOLOLOLOL.
I guess I said too many nice things about her in previous posts and now I have to even things out. She really sucks. I really, really mean it.
(I don’t.)
In regards to our love life together, we’ve been watching lots of movies and eating lots of candy lately. She buys the movies and I buy the treats. It’s pretty fun. I’m looking forward to continuing this...

The Dart Frog (an old poem)
i’m slipper-full of poison, slick on my back like lemonade
and watermelon seeds.
it’s a fruitless warning for the curious,
as they approach awe-eyed and wide-struck,
longing to be dampened at the tips–
lusting,
looming,
all their innocence around them like
thick candy cotton-clouds to be dissolved.
well i am not so edible
as your sugar sustenance.
though i would like to be...
in response to maddy's "college" post
so my sister (who is probably the only one reading this anyway) is bummed because her new college roommate is going to be staying with her boyfriend most of the time and may not get to be good friends like she was hoping for…
that’s really crappy and i feel bad for you, bo. but you’ll have to make the most of it i guess. it’s a big room for just one person… and lord...
Vacation 2
So apparently I only write about vacations… but I just returned from our family excursion to Nashville and back (a road trip sort of deal)! It was awesome! I will post probably hundreds of pictures soon… but to summarize:
8/9 King’s Island: Loved the new Diamondback, hated being doubly embarrassed by not recognizing my ex-bf’s parents who caught me singing to myself.
8/10...

Rebellion and Vacation
Some things that I’ve done since I last wrote:
I was a rebellious person, and I went to get my “Leisure Card” from the Columbus Parks and Recreation center. I was rebellious because I gave a fake name, the brilliant and subtle “Rosa Kaybrook.” See, we discovered through some friends that the application process for said leisure cards isn’t a terribly difficult...
